If you haven't read Part 1 yet then like any book, you need to read it before you read Part 2 as it will make more sense.
Arriving at Bury Hill on Sunday morning I actually felt sorry for the other anglers in the Medway Trotters match that I'd kindly been invited to fish as with my recently purchased Marukyu Nori pelletts, which some anglers have had to stop using on Carp venues where bream are also stocked as the bream keep getting to the bait first, I was going to empty the lake and even made sure I had two keepnets with me !
With 15 anglers fishing we were allocated pegs 1-19 on the Front bank which was a bit frustrating as nobody came to fish pegs 20-26 (the other pegs on the front bank) all day so we could have had a few more pegs and given everyone a bit more room. Still, you can't moan at £10.50 a peg can you !!!
Fortunately the fish had spread out over the lake recently so I didn't really mind where I drew but would have fancied either end peg or just one with a bit of room. As it turned out, of the 15 anglers fishing, I only knew 5 of them and we ended up with Jonny Watt on Peg 2, me on Peg 3, Hathers on Peg 4 and Squeeky on Peg 6 !
Historically Peg 3 has been a decent peg but with Hathers to my right on Peg 4, I could have done with a bit more room as due to the angle of the platforms, when he cast out his feeder it was right in front of me. Nevertheless, I didn't intend to fish the feeder anyway, settling for a pole line at 14.5 metres and a waggler line at about 22 metres. Both lines were to be fed with my Marukyu Nori pellets, 3mm on the pole line and 6mm's on the waggler line. Although I was still confident of catching, I only put one keepnet in at the start.
The majority of the field started on the feeder and had the odd fish or two whilst I tried both the pole and waggler and remained biteless. Jonny Watt had a couple of fish on the feeder as did the chap on Peg 1 but the angler really catching was Club Secretary Steve Peters on Peg 11 who was fishing the pole and seemed to be catching very well on pellett. Returning from my first walk, Hathers had just tried his pole line and caught two decent skimmers and continued to catch on and off for the rest of the match. Jonny Watt seemed to be stuck on 7 skimmers and couldn't catch on the pole whilst the chap on Peg 1 had a carp of about 13lb by the bushes. My match never really got started and I finished up with 3 bream on the pole for a disappointing 7-15-0 and probably last place in the match - even being beaten by Spindle !
I went along the bank to take some pictures but unfortunately after taking this picture of Steve Peters the battery ran out !
Result
Glen Holman...............Peg 15....................40-12-0
Mark Hathway...........Peg 4......................33-9-0
Don't Know his Name...Peg 1...................32-7-0
Steve Peters...............Peg 11....................31-4-0
So, yet another disappointing match for me on a venue that I really like, but thanks to The Medway Trotters for letting me join them for the day.
Sunday sees me back at Willinghurst for a match on Pittance and Old Lake so hopefully I will catch a few fish.
