Willinghurst - Pittance and Old Lakes

Sorry the blogging has been a bit late recently, I 've been a bit tied up looking for a job and sorting out my Charity Match ! Whilst on the subject of the match, it's on Sunday 30th August at Willinghurst and I still have a couple of places available for what should be a brilliant day - I don't think I have laughed so much as I did at last years match. If anyone is interested in fishing then email me at Pikeyp@btinternet.com.

Last Sunday with no club match, we hastily organised a 15 peg sweep at Willinghurst with 10 pegs on Pittance and 5 on the far bank of Old Lake. Having drawn Pittance 14 I nearly ran there as Ross had won the club match there the previous sunday with 168lb fishing paste at about 6 metres - sounds like heaven doesn't it !

I started the match fishing paste at about 7 metres and had a fish of about 8lb after about 30 seconds, then another smaller one next put in ! Bloody hell I thought, if Ross could catch 168lb then at this rate I'd probably have 200lb+ . Well my Old saying that "Fish have fins and do sometimes swim about" was never truer as for the next three hours I never had a bite. The wind was very strong and made fishing paste quite hard but by switching around lines etc I thougth I'd at least catch the odd fish. Hayden Woods was next to me on Peg 13 and was catching the odd fish on the Method to the island and Ian Summers seemed to be bagging on Peg 16 on a short rod and pellett but for everyone else it was a bit slow.

Pittance is usually one of the best "Edge Peg" lakes on the complex but with the water being down 10 inches or so, I 'd fed a line probably a yard out from the rushes in about 2 foot of water and with 2 hours to go had my first fish from that line fishing double corn over hemp / corn feed.
Me and Hayden then had a very silly hour or so as he had been wearing a hat that looked like the ones worn by "Bill and Ben - The Flowerpot men". We therefore decided that rather than keep watching each other to see who was catching, every time he hooked a fish he'd shout "Weeeeeeeeed" and every time I hooked one I'd shout "ffflllloooobbbbbaaalob". We both had a very busy hour catching and I think Alan Harrington who was the other side of a bush to Hayden's right was getting a little fed up after a while !

Despite fishing quite hard there were some decent weights on the lake with Ian Summers weighing 119lb followed by me with 92lb, Alan Harrington with 81lb and Pete Turnbull and Hayden with 74lb and 72lb respectively but we couldn't compete with Old lake which fished well again.

Pound Watch

Simmons returned after a break for house moving but refused my offer of a pound side bet despite drawing the best peg on the lake. My regular donation of a pound to Plummers continued as he can do no wrong at the moment.
