The following is taken from the Bury Hill Website !
The mainstay of the sport during the warmer months is from pretty, golden crucian that run to 3 lb, plus tench that reach 7 lb and golden rudd and roach that approach 2 lb. However when ‘Jack Frost’ returns, Milton’s large shoals of specimen roach, rudd and perch burst into life when even on the coldest winter’s day, nets of red fins and stripers can be caught to 50lb.
To cut a long story short, 16 of us turned up to fish the Total Fishing Southern Xmas Match. It was very cold, there wasn't a cloud in the sky (perfect for roach !) and unless you drew near some rushes that grew out into the lake then you were unlikely to get a bite. Despite not catching I had a good day walking and chatting to fellow TF members. Highlight of the day was Chris Martin's face when he pulled his keepnet out to weigh in his 1 small perch, unaware of the fact that I had set it free when he went for a walk at the end of the match !
Haisman won his second match in two weeks with 2 carp and 2 perch for 10-9-0 from Peg 4, followed by Martyn Dwayne with 5-8-0 (3 big perch and a couple of small fish) from Peg 3.
Thanks to Hathers for organising the match.
Wednesday sees me back on the Silvers Lake at Sumners Pond and with the next three nights due to all be minus 3 degrees and daytime temperatures forecast to be 2 degrees at most, I might be seeking the services of a helpfull ice breaker as my shoulder still aches !
Happy New Year everyone.
