Complete set of match tackle - Landing net and keepnets hardly used !
Following sundays "One Rudd" match I wasn't my usual enthusiastic self for todays open match on Top and New Lakes. However when I came to draw there were only three pegs remaining, Top 2 - one of my favourite pegs in the whole wide world, Top 25 - The peg I drew last week on the back spit and Top 12 - which can be a very good peg if the fish are at that end of the lake.
Harry the hat spoilt my day by drawing Peg 2 and then Steve Sanders drew 25 leaving me with Peg 12. With pegs 11,13,14,15 and 16 being left out, if I couldn't catch on Peg 12 with about a third of the lake to myself then it would certainly be time to take up crown green bowls or begonia growing.
To cut a long and boring story short, despite fishing various baits on various rigs in various parts of the peg and casting a bomb all over the lake, I never had a single bite !
With Malc Fowler's and Jeff Dickinson's Willinghurst Pairs League starting on Sunday this was not an ideal practice session as Don who I'm partnering in the league also blanked from peg 6 on Top lake ! It was funny though as he spent all match using his second pole - a Power Legion (as his Tournament is being repaired) he fished it at 16 metres and moaned all day about how heavy and floppy is was only to find when packing up that he had a spare fourth section wedged inside the fourth section - no wonder it felt a bit top heavy !
To really spoil my day, Steve Sanders won from a peg I nearly drew and Harry finished 4th !
