Following last weeks superb afternoon at my local club pond, I was itching to get down there again and fish the other pond. So, with the weather looking decent and not too many animals at the Wildlife centre to look after, I was back home by 1.30pm having cleaned out, weighed and fed 19 hedgehogs !
Within 15 minutes I had sorted out some tackle, grabbed yesterdays left over paste and made the long walk (200 metres) to the ponds.
I arrived to find that it must be half term and half the swims were taken up by juniors. I dumped my tackle in a peg on the top lake and went for a wander to see if I knew anyone fishing.
In the first peg I approached I found a chap (whose name I forget) but he has recently joined the club and I've seen him on three of our recent matches. I stood chatting for what seemed like ages before deciding to try a peg on the bottom pond which was being vacated by a junior.
Although the fishing was a lot slower than last friday, I was soon catching a few carp between 1lb and 2lb whilst chatting to fellow club member Graham Mac who'd turned up on his bike for a look around. The leaves were a pain as the wind kept blowing more and more into the peg but at least I was getting bites. After a while I was getting a bit bored of catching (as I often do when pleasure fishing) so thought I'd try fishing down by the rushes to my other side. It only took a few minutes for the fish to find my paste hookbait and I was soon catching well, and these were bigger fish from 2lb-4lb. I carried on catching on and off until 5.30pm when I packed away my gear for the short walk home. We are fishing a club match on the lakes on sunday week and I might just be tempted back for another visit before then.
