A Day Out with Mr Ringer.

Many many moons ago, I got a bit carried away with bidding for a Charity auction item on the Total Fishing.com website and eventually found myself the proud winner of a day out with Steve Ringer !

For one reason or another, we had never arranged the day but finally managed to sort it out for yesterday at Willinghurst. I had agreed with Steve that it was ok to bring someone else along and having thought of the worst match angler I knew who would benefit most from a day with a "Proper" angler, there could obviously only be one suitable candidate........................Mick The Bookie !

The fishing wasn't brilliant as the fish seemed to shut up shop but Steve still caught enough to make it interesting. I've not really sat and watched top anglers before but the three things that really stood out yesterday were.

1. How easy he makes it all look.
2. How accurate his casting was.
3. How quickly he nets fish.

The look on Mick's face was a picture when Steve started on the method to the far bank of the back spit, as the first 3 or 4 casts all dropped within inches of the bank. We both looked at each other and giggled like a couple of school boys, especially when Mick said "He casts a bit like me" yer right Mick, how come he hasn't been up the far bank yet then ! LOL

Netting fish was also like another game to the one I play as Steve seemed to just wind the fish across the lake and just reel them straight into his landing net - If I can master that, I reckon I can save about 30 minutes per match in playing fish.

All in all I had a brilliant day, Steve Ringer is one of the best anglers in the country and not only that, he is a really nice chappie, we've spent the whole day fishing and chatting about fishing, and I think I've learnt a lot although we'll have to wait and see if I put it in to practice !

Thanks also to Mick The Bookie, he really is as mad as a hatter but I really enjoy being in his company. I will definitely book another day with Steve next year and probably a couple with Mick as well !
Thanks Steve and Mick for a superb day.
